Sculpture > Formalities

This series is based on the old costume of prepping your house for a visitor. Transforming one's environment by creating beauty from simplicity.
I created these pieces while remembering a visit we paid to one the worker's humble house at my grandpa's coffee farm. His wife clearly knew we were coming, and took such time and care to prepare her house for our visit. There, I tasted the best coffee I've ever had, while admiring her resourcefulness. Her vases and pots for the freshly picked flowers and overflowing greenery, were aluminum coffee cans and plastic containers sitting over the intricate and heavily patterned doilies, she probably crocheted herself.
